I hate to sound crass, but unless there's something that you know they really need, or something that you know they would enjoy but would never buy for themselves, you can't really go wrong with just cash. Odds are, no matter what they get from people, there's going to be a whole lot of things they need that they didn't get. Having the money to get some of it is always a plus.
